New England Flying Weather

ME · NH · VT · MA · RI · CT · 2006–2025 · 64 eligible airports

Rapid coastal cyclogenesis and nor'easters define the cold season, with heavy snow inland, mixed precipitation near the coast, and long-duration airframe-icing setups in persistent onshore flow. Spring and early summer bring recurrent advection sea fog to the coastline, most notoriously along the Maine coast. Summer offers generally good VFR broken by frontal thunderstorm passages, while the White and Green Mountains generate severe turbulence, rotor, and summit obscuration in strong flow year-round. Best flying is late summer through early fall; worst is mid-winter storm cycles and the spring fog season.
