Transitional regime along the Balcones Escarpment where Gulf moisture meets the drier Edwards Plateau. Overnight and early-morning low stratus with MVFR/IFR ceilings pushed inland from the Gulf is common much of the year, typically lifting to VFR by late morning. Spring brings severe thunderstorms with large hail along the I-35 corridor, and the escarpment terrain is among the most flash-flood-prone in the country; summers are hot with elevated density altitude on the plateau and only isolated convection. Fall through early winter offers the most reliable flying weather.
