Slant range error in DME is greatest —
- A. when the aircraft is more than 50 NM from the station.

DME measures the hypotenuse, not ground distance. Directly over a station at 6,000 feet AGL the DME reads about 1 NM even though ground distance is zero. The error becomes negligible when horizontal distance exceeds about three times the altitude in thousands of feet.

True airspeed rises roughly 2 percent per 1,000 feet above indicated, so about 16 percent at 8,000 feet — near 162 knots here. Warmer-than-standard temperatures increase it further.

The Commercial Pilot Airplane knowledge test (CAX) is 100 multiple-choice questions with a time limit of 2.5 hours, administered by PSI at approved testing centers. You need 70% — 70 of 100— to pass, and the questions are drawn from the FAA Airman Certification Standards. Bring a valid photo ID and your instructor’s endorsement (or an approved equivalent), and plan to keep your test report — you’ll review any missed areas with your instructor before the practical test. Knowledge test results are valid for 24 calendar months.

What is the FAA code for the commercial pilot airplane test?

What are the requirements for a commercial pilot certificate?
You must be at least 18, hold at least a second-class medical to exercise commercial privileges, and have 250 hours of flight time under part 61 (190 hours under an approved part 141 course), including specified pilot-in-command, cross-country, night, and instrument time.
Can a commercial pilot fly charter flights?
Not on the certificate alone. A commercial certificate lets you be paid to fly; carrying persons or property for the public for hire is common carriage and requires certification under 14 CFR part 119 and operation under part 121 or 135. Part 91 aerial work such as photography, banner towing, and ferry flights is a different matter.
What is the difference between a complex and a high-performance airplane?
Complex means retractable landing gear, flaps, and a controllable-pitch propeller. High performance means an engine of more than 200 horsepower. Each requires its own one-time logbook endorsement.
