This is a free FAA ATP Helicopter practice test: a full 80 questions in the same format as the real ATH knowledge test, scored at 70%. ATH is the ATP written for the part 135 helicopter world of air ambulance, offshore, and utility flying, so this bank weights what those jobs turn on: helicopter-specific part 135 VFR and fuel rules, the HAA rules in subpart L, Category A profiles and the height-velocity diagram, copter and point-in-space approaches, and the hazards that actually end helicopter careers, from wire strikes to inadvertent IMC and brownout. Unlike the multiengine airplane ATP, no ATP-CTP course is required before this test; 14 CFR 61.156 applies only to the ATP multiengine airplane knowledge test. Clear air turbulence associated with the jet stream is most likely to be found:
- A. on the polar side of the jet, near and above the tropopause, especially where the jet curves around a deep trough. ✓
- B. on the equatorial side of the jet in straight-line flow.
- C. only within clouds along the jet axis.
- D. well below the jet core in the mid-levels.
CAT favors the cold (polar) side of the jet near tropopause breaks and sharpens where the jet curves around a trough. It is worst in winter, when jets are strongest, and it paints nothing on radar.

An LPV approach differs from an LNAV approach in that LPV:
- A. may be flown without any integrity monitoring.
- B. requires ground-based glideslope equipment.
- C. always uses higher minimums than LNAV.
- D. provides WAAS-based vertical guidance and is flown to a DA rather than an MDA. ✓
LPV is the WAAS service with approved vertical guidance: ILS-like angular guidance flown to a DA. COPTER RNAV procedures increasingly carry LPV lines, which matters at heliports that will never see an ILS.

The difference between an MDA and a DA is that:
- A. a DA applies only to COPTER procedures.
- B. an MDA always provides a lower minimum than a DA.
- C. an MDA may not be descended below without visual references, while a DA is where the missed approach decision is made on a glidepath. ✓
- D. a DA applies only to circling approaches.
MDA is a floor you level at and hold; DA is a decision point on a continuous descent, and the momentary dip below it during the go-around transition is built into the obstacle assessment.

On request from the Administrator, an authorized NTSB representative, or a law enforcement officer, an ATP holder must present:
- A. a complete pilot logbook.
- B. the operator's operations specifications.
- C. the pilot certificate, medical certificate, and photo identification. ✓
- D. the aircraft and engine logbooks.
61.3 requires the certificate, medical, and photo ID to be in physical possession or readily accessible, and presented on request. The full logbook is not carried: only the records needed to show required currency or eligibility when asked.

A helicopter operated VFR during the day under part 135 in Class G airspace at or below 1,200 feet AGL requires a flight visibility of at least:
- A. 3 statute miles.
- B. 1 statute mile.
- C. 2 statute miles.
- D. 1/2 statute mile. ✓
135.205(b) sets helicopter Class G visibility at 1/2 SM day and 1 SM night. The permissive number arrives with 135.207 attached. The pilot must also keep visual surface reference sufficient to control the helicopter.

The Airline Transport Pilot Helicopter knowledge test (ATH) is 80 multiple-choice questions with a time limit of 3 hours, administered by PSI at approved testing centers. You need 70%, 56 of 80, to pass, and the questions are drawn from the FAA Airman Certification Standards. Bring a valid photo ID and your instructor’s endorsement (or an approved equivalent), and plan to keep your test report. You’ll review any missed areas with your instructor before the practical test. Knowledge test results are valid for 24 calendar months.

How many questions are on the FAA ATP Helicopter written test?
80 questions, with 3 hours to complete them. You need 70%, 56 correct, to pass. The FAA test code is ATH.
What flight experience is required for the rotorcraft ATP certificate?
Under 14 CFR 61.161: 1,200 hours of total time, including 500 hours cross-country, 100 hours of night time, 200 hours in helicopters (at least 75 of them as helicopter PIC), and 75 hours of instrument time. The unrestricted certificate requires age 23; the knowledge test can be taken at 21.
Do I need an ATP-CTP course before taking the ATH test?
No. The ATP Certification Training Program requirement in 14 CFR 61.156 applies only to the ATP multiengine airplane (ATM) knowledge test. There is no ATP-CTP prerequisite for the helicopter ATP written.
Who needs the helicopter ATP?
It is the career standard for part 135 helicopter PIC jobs: air ambulance, offshore, and utility IFR operations. For helicopter air ambulance PICs, 14 CFR 135.603 requires meeting the part 135 PIC requirements and holding a helicopter instrument rating or an ATP rotorcraft-helicopter certificate not limited to VFR, and many HAA and offshore operators hire to the full ATP.
Does this practice test cover the helicopter air ambulance (HAA) rules?
Yes. Part 135 subpart L is covered at the level the test expects: HAA pilot requirements (135.603), HTAWS (135.605), flight data monitoring (135.607), the pre-flight risk analysis (135.617), and operations control centers for operators with 10 or more air ambulances (135.619).
Are these the actual FAA ATH questions?
No. They are original questions written against 14 CFR parts 61, 91 and 135, the AIM, and the Helicopter Flying Handbook. Every one is figure-free.
