Why LAS gets delayed
Las Vegas almost never sees bad visibility, so its FAA programs come from two other places: wind and staffing. Each caused 37% of the 100 programs the FAA ran for LAS in the 12 months to October 2026. Harry Reid's four runways form two crossing pairs, and a strong wind shift can force a change of runway configuration that cuts the arrival rate.
The staffing programs were long, including a 13 h 13 min program on November 10, 2025, during the federal government shutdown, and a 9 h 24 min program on May 3, 2026.
