2026-07-20 — Initial release (methodology v1, score v1)
First publication of the ATIS Alerts Flying Weather Index. Study period 2006–2025. Historical surface observations ingested for U.S. airport reporting stations, quality-controlled, and aggregated into per-airport, regional, and national rankings, plus the four ATIS Alerts scores.
- Launched the rankings hub, best-VFR-regions, per-region pages, and the national ranking pages.
- Added the Historical Flying Weather module to eligible airport pages.
- Published the methodology, data-sources, and eligibility pages.
How updates work
When a new calendar year of observations completes, the dataset is recomputed and the “last updated” date on each page advances. Methodology and score formulas are versioned: a formula change bumps the version and is logged here, so past results stay reproducible and comparable. Added or removed airports and individual record corrections will also be listed as they happen.
Educational use only. Historical weather rankings from ATIS Alerts are educational summaries of past observations — not a forecast, flight-planning tool, or safety rating. They do not replace current METARs, TAFs, NOTAMs, ATIS, or a weather briefing, and favorable history does not make any airport safe. Always check current conditions and use your own judgment before flight.
